West Indies cricket team was defeated by India by 8 runs

India won the second T20I of the three-match series against West Indies by 8 runs at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday. India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series with this victory. Despite half-centuries from Rovman Powell and Nicholas Pooran, West Indies were restricted to a total of 178 for three in pursuit of a target of 187. Powell (68*) and Pooran (62) put up 100 runs for the third wicket before Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed the latter. West Indies had earlier lost the wickets of Brandon King and Kyle Mayers with Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi taking a wicket each.

After winning the toss, the West Indies chose to bowl. India reached a score of 186 for 5 against the West Indies, with Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli both scoring fiftys. After Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ishan Kishan were dismissed for cheap, Pant (52 off 28) and Kohli (52 off 41) kept India going. In the last seven overs, India scored 88 runs with the help of Venkatesh Iyer (33) and Pant. Roston Chase took three wickets for the West Indies, while Sheldon Cottrell and Romario Shepard each had one.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar about his bowling

“There was a bit of dew but we managed. Probably 200kph [the speed with which Powell was hitting his shots]. We tried a few slower ball that gripped. The ones Deepak Chahar tried they didn’t. Bowling slower ones depend on the surface. These guys are so powerful that you cannot let them know where you are going to bow. Touch wood the body is feeling okay.”
